Letter in Support of David Ruffley MP
On behalf of the Suffolk MPs, we would like to express our support for David Ruffley during a very difficult time for him personally. David is an outstanding MP who contributes at the highest level in Westminster, and who at the same time always works tirelessly locally for the people of Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, Needham Market, and the villages that make up the Bury St Edmunds constituency.
David has been diagnosed with depression, and as a result will be taking leave on medical advice in order to restore his health. During that period, we shall be helping to look after David’s constituents in close consultation with David and his House of Commons office. Until David is fully recovered, Dr Dan Poulter MP will be helping to look after constituents in the parts of the Mid-Suffolk council area that David represents, and Matthew Hancock MP will help to look after the constituents in the St Edmundsbury Council area. Constituents can, of course, continue to write to David at the House of Commons as we will be overseeing his constituency correspondence.
It is important to recognise that mental health conditions should be treated in exactly the same way as physical illness. We must all support David during this difficult time, and allow him the time and space he needs for a full and sustained recovery.
Matthew Hancock MP and Dr Dan Poulter MP will be holding regular surgeries on David’s behalf as well as supporting him in his constituency engagements over the next few months. We are sure that everyone would wish to join us in wishing David Ruffley well, a speedy recovery, and a quick return to the frontline of local and national politics, where he belongs.
For surgery information please contact Virginia Tuck at the House of Commons, Westminster, SW1A OAA or call 020 7219 2880.
With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
Dr Daniel Poulter MP & Matthew Hancock MP
I have served as the Member of Parliament for Bury St Edmunds since 1997. The main towns in the constituency are Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Needham Market and it also includes many villages going as far east from Bury St Edmunds as the A140.
As your MP I have had a very simple principle: to take on anybody in authority - whether it be in Whitehall, Westminster, the County Council, the Borough Council, the District Council, the bus companies, the rail companies, the water companies or, indeed, any other utility on behalf of my constituents. I like to get things done!
